After moving to Connecticut at the end of 1999, I approached Boston Magazine about reprising an article I had written about the best places to work in Dallas. The top employers still offered a host of frills -- trips, cars and often extravagant workplace amenities -- but employees and recruits were focusing on what really mattered: a rewarding career with opportunities for advancement.
