Justice Delayed: The Petit Murders

When this article was published in the July 2009 issue of Connecticut Magazine, it had been two years since two men were charged in the brutal murders of Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters, Hayley and Michaela, in their Cheshire, Conn., home. While the lone survivor, Dr. William Petit not-so-patiently awaited justice, the case against the two suspects slowly inched toward trial. This article examined why it was taking so long. In May 2010 the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists awarded the article a second place for depth reporting.
